Orxa Energies, a Bengaluru based performance electric vehicle and energy systems start-up unveiled its first model which is the Mantis electric motorcycle. The Mantis electric motorcycle is a naked electric sport motorcycle that will have a claimed top-speed of over 140 kmph and a range of 200 km on a single charge.
The performance electric motorcycle is equipped with a 9 kWh battery pack which comprises of six 1.5 kWh smaller modules. The battery modules are swappable and use a proprietary battery management system (BMS) which helps to fully charge the pack in 3.5 hrs using a regular portable charger. It is also equipped with a sophisticated fully digital dashboard and a dedicated mobile app to monitor ride analytics, diagnostics and preventive maintenance. The instrument cluster will give you all the necessary information like speed, range, battery charge and other telematics related readouts.
During the development stage, over 100 professional, semi-professional and regular riders had tested the motorcycle at the Aruani Grid on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Orxa Energies was founded in 2015, as a funded start-up by founders Prajwal Sabnis and Ranjita Ravi.

2022 Orxa Energies Mantis Review : Powertrain & Range
The Mantis’ specifications revealed by Orxa Energies show that it is powered by an electric motor that’s “designed for 25kW peak power.” The company has also claimed impressive performance numbers – a 0-100kph sprint in 8sec, with a top speed of 140kph. The Mantis weighs 175kg and that’s relatively light for an all-electric motorcycle. The company says that this is due to the use of a lightweight aluminium frame. Suspension duties are handled by a 41mm telescopic fork and a monoshock.
The company says it has developed its lithium-ion battery pack in-house, and that it has a total storage capacity of 9kWh. The battery pack consists of six swappable, modular units, and weighs a substantial 63kg in total! On a full charge, Orxa Energies claims a real-world range of 200km, which is certainly more than what most other electric two-wheelers in India offer at the moment.
2022 Orxa Energies Mantis Review : Performance
The Orxa Mantis is a unique motorcycle and stands out when it comes to the design styling. Up front, it features twin projector headlamps with the projector units exposed. Under the projectors are two extensions.
The bodywork near the tank, fairing and rear-end are all sharp and edgy. Orxa did not reveal details of the powertrain used in the Mantis, but did mention that it will have brilliant performance figures.
Orxa claims that the Mantis will have a top speed of around 140km/h and a range of 200 kilometres on one fully-charged battery. The six batteries in the motorcycle can all be charged from 0-100 percent in around 3.5 hours.
The Orxa Mantis features battery-swapping technology. It’s side panels are motorised and open to reveal the batteries which can then be swapped if required. It will be a connected motorcycle with a digital instrument cluster that connects to a smartphone app to relay motorcycle and ride statistics. Orxa also said that it has developed a lithium-ion battery pack which can also be supplied to other companies.
Our Opinion
Orxa Energies are also developing motorcycles and trikes with swappable batteries. The major disadvantage of electric vehicles right now is the battery charging time. In the future, new technology will allow people to just swap the battery of the vehicle and move on. The start-up is planning to create a whole swappable ecosystem that will enable electric vehicle users to just swap the batteries on the go.
