The Leoncino 800 sports a beefier fuel tank and an exposed steel trellis frame. It sports an oval-shaped full-LED headlamp that further differentiates it from the Leoncino 500. The motorcycle comes powered by a 754cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that churns out 81bhp and 67Nm and has a claimed top-speed of 190kmph.
It rides on 17-inch spoke wheels wrapped in dual-sport tyres which are suspended by beefy 50mm inverted forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Meanwhile braking is handled by twin 320mm discs for the front and a 260mm single-disc at the rear sourced from Brembo. In Leoncino 800 the shapes become harder and more sculpted, thus enhancing its power and dynamism: in the pure elegance of its lines and in the modernity of its style, this two-wheeler is able to express all its essence and uniqueness, while maintaining what are the elements iconic pieces of the Leoncino range. In fact, even in the 800cc version we find the stylistic element of the arch, which is faithful to both the headlight and the tank, keeping the family feeling unchanged.
The beating heart of Leoncino 800 is the 754cc, liquid cooled, four-stroke, twin cylinder engine; dependable and reactive, now Euro5 approved. It delivers well on the throttle with a power of 76.2 HP (56 kW) at 8500 rpm and a torque of 67 Nm (6.8 kgm) at 6500 rpm. Finally, the double overhead camshaft timing with 4 valves per cylinder, as well as the double throttle body of 43 mm diameter, wet anti-slip clutch and 6-speed gearbox, complete the picture for a safe and state-of-the-art engine transmission assembly.
2023 Benelli Leoncino 800 Review : Performance
The new Benelli Leoncino 800 is offered in two versions. The standard version remains road biased and comes with the traditionally-shaped yet muscular fuel tank, sculpted lines, and throwback tail section. The Leoncino branding on the side panels bring a contemporary appeal to the motorcycle, while the round LED headlamp with the U-shaped LED daytime running light is also a mix of old and new. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels at the front and rear with a 120-section tyre upfront and a 180 section unit at the rear.
The Benelli Leoncino 800 Trail, on the other hand, gets a bunch of off-road friendly enhancements like the high-mounted exhaust pipes, a small flyscreen, knobby tyres with a 19-inch front wheel and longer travel front suspension. Both versions gets 50 mm Marzocchi USD forks at the front with rebound, compression and preload adjustment. On the road-biased version, the suspension travel measures 130 mm, while on the Trail it goes up to 140 mm. The seat height has been increased on the off-road friendly version to 828 mm. At the rear, both versions get a preload adjustable monoshock.
The 2023 Benelli Leoncino 800 is underpinned by a tubular steel frame while power comes from the 754 cc liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine that develops 75 bhp and 68 Nm of peak torque. The motor is Euro5 compliant, which means it can be easily adapted to BS6 norms, and is paired with a 6-speed gearbox assisted by a slipper clutch. Braking performance comes from Brembo units on either version.
Our Opinion
The big surprise of the 2023 Benelli Leoncino is the wide range of its appeal. Usually, a boutique brand such as Benelli has more to offer an experienced rider than a new one. However, the Leoncino’s handling and friendly engine are incredibly confidence-inspiring, making it an excellent choice for someone getting into motorcycling. At the same time, riders who have been around many blocks will have a great time riding a motorcycle with such a renowned pedigree. In both cases, the price makes the indulgence just that much less difficult to justify.
