2023 Hero Electric AE-47 Review : Powertrain & Range
With the overall automotive industry gradually shifting towards electrification, we will be seeing products which are more than just puny scooters for city commute and last mile connectivity. Manufacturers have already started introducing performance-oriented, feature-packed and stylish electric two-wheelers. With an aim to follow the suit, Hero Electric plans to launch its first electric motorcycle, the AE-47, by the end of 2020.
The homegrown electric two-wheeler maker had showcased the AE-47 at the 2020 Auto Expo in February. The motorcycle grabbed a lot of attention at the Expo owing to its compact yet aggressive stance. It sports a round LED headlamp accompanied by a body-coloured bezel and a tiny visor on top. The muscular fuel tank-like panel is joined by neatly designed plastic panels underneath, which also form a covering for the battery package. The upswept tail section holding a split seat setup lend it a sporty character.
Besides the design, the AE-47 is also premium in terms of cycle parts. It sports inverted telescopic forks and a monoshock along with disc brakes at both ends. Meanwhile, the design of the swingarm also exudes quality. Powering this motorcycle is a 4kW hub motor which is claimed to deliver a top speed of 85kmph and 0-60kmph is achieved in nine seconds. A removable 3.5kWh lithium-ion battery can deliver range of 160kms and 85kms in Power and Eco mode, respectively. The charging time is stated to be four hours.
The AE-47 is also high on features with a fancy fully-digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity along with full-LED lighting. It also incorporates a USB charger, walk and reverse assist, cruise control, geo-fencing, GPS and support for SIM card.
2023 Hero Electric AE-47 Review : Performance
The Hero AE-47 electric is a ‘high-speed’ motorcycle and one of the most premium products the EV brand has ever introduced. It is powered by a 4kW motor coupled to a 3.5kWh Li-ion battery. Combined, the all-electric Hero AE-47 has a claimed top speed of 85km/h and can hit 60km/h from a standstill in 9 seconds.
The battery requires four hours to charge from empty. Range figures stand at 160km in Eco mode and drop down to 85km in Power mode; of course, at the advantage of better throttle response and quicker acceleration.
The list of standard equipment includes a front disc brake with combi-braking, rear monoshock, cruise control, digital instrument console, keyless access, mobile charger and reverse mode. Mobile connectivity is also there which lets the driver access functions such as GPS, GPRS, real-time tracking and geo-fencing.
Our Opinion
The facts and figures of the new Hero electric bike may not seem impressive, but it at the expected levels of the current Indian EV scenario. The pricing has not been revealed yet even though one can expect it to be in the range of Rs 1.25-1.50 lakh ex-showroom. In this range, it will take on the likes of Revolt RV400 electric bike, and the upcoming Tork e-motorcycle.
