Benelli TNT600i Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike

Benelli TNT600i Review 2022

The Italians are known globally for their exotic designs and their crazy exhaust notes. In India when you ask somebody to think of an Italian bike there is only one name that comes up. I’m pretty sure it came up in your head too. Yes, I am talking about Ducati. That’s the only Italian bike the majority of Indians can relate to. This statistic is now up for a change with DSK bringing the 104 year old and multi- championship winning company Benelli to India. DSK has said that Benelli will be launching bikes from 300cc to 1130cc in the Indian market. We get our hands on the BN600i (in India known as the TNT600i) and take it for a spin on the twisties of Lavasa road.

When you look at it, the BN 600i (TNT 600i) seems to have a very off-beat appearance. It’s new and hence different from the usual bikes that are sold in the Indian market. Yes it is a naked bike as well. When we talk about nakeds, the bike that comes to mind at first is the iconic Triumph Speed Triple or the Ducati Streetfighter. This doesn’t look anything like those bikes but has a personality of it’s own. The headlight is large and seems to wrap around and down the front of the bike, somewhat resembling the old Yamaha Libero.

The front end has twin headlamps and twin pilot lights as well. Below the headlamp is a set of air scoops, the utility of which I’m not too sure of, but it adds to the distinct looks of this bike. The tank is large and angular and is capable of carrying 15 litres of petrol. There is a protrusion from the tank that extends towards the front of the bike giving it quite the aggressive styling, with BN600i decals onlookers will know which Benelli it is for sure. The exposed frame, the rear mono-shock and the beastly looking swing-arm add to the presence of this bike. For me the best looking part of the bike was the back.

The rear seat tapers upwards like most sports bikes but below the seat housing are two large, slightly oval exhaust tips, one on either side of the pillion seat. These are distinct to the Benelli BN600i and are unlike anything else seen on bikes sold in India. To top it off the neat looking handle bars and tight controls fit extremely will with the bikes beefy stance.

The asymmetric mono-shock at the rear is coated in red that further upgrades and step up the sporty look. The grab rail at the split rear offers pillion safety and looks stylish. The bike has LED tail lamps that look stunning. The dual exhaust set-up at both sides of the tail lamp elevates the super sporty and stylish appearance of the bike.

The body dimensions of Benelli TNT 600i is 2160 mm-length, 800 mm-width, and 1180 mm-height. The wheelbase of the bike is 1480 mm that ensures smooth handling in tight traffic conditions. The 150 mm ground clearance offers commendable stability and gives much-needed confidence to the rider while taking sharp turns.

Benelli TNT600i Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

The Benelli TNT 600i is powered by a 600cc, in-line, 4-cylinder, 4-stroke, 16-valve, liquid-cooled, DOHC petrol motor producing 82 BHP of power @ 11,500 RPM and 52 Nm of torque @ 10,500 RPM. Engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox coupled with a wet clutch. The bike also gets two catalytic converters and four oxygen sensors. The 4x1x2 exhaust is pure symphony at all times, idle or revving.

Fire up the 600cc motor and you will be surprised with the levels of refinement. The engine is smooth as silk, and at idle, there is absolutely no harshness or vibrations felt or heard. Even at idle, the exhaust note from the 4-cylinder motor is a melody to listen to. The refinement levels of the TNT 600i simply cannot be compared to the harsh TNT 899. Slot it in first and the bike needs only a light twist of your wrist. Torque availability low down isn’t adequate to keep lugging the motor without throttle input.

However, don’t get us wrong, even if you slow down a bit too much, the engine doesn’t start knocking. It still keeps progressing, but is not as eager as it would be in the right gear. Power delivery is very linear and tamed down. You can expect no drama at all within the city. The TNT 600i can even serve as your daily commuter, it is that easy to live with.

With a strong mid-range, the first couple of gears can handle everything, from crawling at low speeds, to blasting away from signals after a green light. Not to forget the exhaust note while doing so, the TNT 600i cannot go unnoticed, or rather, unheard. Gearshift quality is good, and the bike did not false shift even once. Finding neutral was also not too difficult. The clutch however is a bit hard, as was the case on the bigger 899. Also, the travel range of the lever isn’t adjustable, which will lead your fingers feeling stressed after a long ride.

Benelli TNT600i Review 2022 : Performance

Benelli has powered the TNT 600i by its in-house made 600cc in-line four-cylinder engine, with each cylinder having 4-valves. The four 38 mm throttle bodies feed in and the engine churns out a decent 85 HP of power while having a torque output of 54.6 Nm. The difference at which the torque and power comes out isn’t much and hence the bike is just one crazy machine near the redline. The weight is what settles this bull down. The 231 kgs of Italian engineering take some efforts to move at initial speeds but once in motion, the machine does get angry quite soon. Hitting the ton just takes four seconds with absolutely no respite from the motorcycle till the double ton.

The power delivery from the in-line four is linear and can be enjoyed under the 5000 RPM. However, once past the 7000 RPM mark, the motor kicks in with power so drastically that the speedometer just gains all the numbers it can. It’s really the mid and top-end of the TNT 600i which has offers the most drama. The smoothness of the bike is exceptional. At any speed and at any gear, there is no knocking from the engine. Comfortably cruising in sixth gear at 5000 RPM with the bike doing 100 km/hr is an easy task, whereas insanely redlining the bike in second gear shows 130 km/hr, at both times the engine felt butter smooth except the windblast which is always a downside for riding a naked bike. The gearbox offers smooth shifts but the fuelling could do with more precision to prevent any snatchy feel at the low-end.

Four-cylinder engines have the best sound track, that’s played from the exhaust when revved and even at idle. Our test ride route had quite a lot of straights, curves and tunnels, and all the tunnels we redlined the bike to savour the sound. The surround sound of the exhaust note is the best we have come across on a locally assembled bike on a total stock setup. Clocking about 300 kms and the 15-litre fuel tank needed a re-fuel, we could say that the motorcycle returned a tad under 20 km/l on combined riding in the city, highway and ghats.

Benelli TNT600i Review 2022 : Riding & Comfort

The TNT ride quality is fairly plaint and its suspension doesn’t show any signs of crashing over bumps. With its pretty ergonomics, riding this bike on a daily basis, handling commuting as well as occasional touring and sport riding duties with the same amount of ease will make you happy.

Just like some other bikes the TNT 600 baffles you when you first ride it. Its middle weight might create a little bit of disappointment in you but giving it a little time and letting it grow in you will definitely make you enjoy it. Then will you realize it is a very flexible sort of motorcycle with the ability to transport a wide variety of riders.

Another great aspect of the TNT 600 is that it offers unintimidating, but appreciable performance with a melodious four-cylinder soundtrack playing in the background putting you in your comfort zone and being just what is desired in the Indian market.

The Benilli TNT 600 might have some ways to go to become a magnificent bike. It has a price of Rs 7.32 lakh, which is a great value for money package. With its added safety net of ABS, a proposal that makes it admirable and unable to ignore.

Our Opinion

Overall, the 2022 Benelli TNT 600i is a capable machine with a price tag that matches its ability and functionality. It looks fantastic and offers an ease-of-use that makes inner-city commuting a breeze. And learner riders could do a lot worse for a first or second bike.
