BMW iX Review 2022 – My Dream My Car : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Car” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “BMW iX Review 2022”.

BMW’s first electric SUV iX is Comparable to the X5 in size, 377 miles of Edmunds-tested range, Uses BMW’s newest iDrive infotainment system, Launches the first iX generation for 2022. It’s been quite a while since we’ve gotten an all-new fully electric BMW — that would be the i3 hatchback, introduced in 2014 — but the wait was definitely worth it. The 2022 BMW iX is the automaker’s first electric SUV and, simply put, it’s stunning.

The brand-new BMW iX is a good SUV. Its dual-motor powertrain delivers energetic acceleration and plenty of power, and the iX’s range tops out at 300 miles. Though not as sporty as the typical BMW, the iX handles well, and it provides a polished ride. The cabin is absolutely top-notch, with superlative build quality, sumptuous seats, and plenty of room for people and cargo. The laundry list of standard features includes a very user-friendly infotainment system.

This is nothing less than the dawn of a new age for BMW. A new platform, new propulsion system, new battery pack and an all-new style sheet. The one thing BMW won’t change, however, is its unflinching focus on driver appeal and driving pleasure. A BMW will remain a BMW, it says, and that’s exactly what we are here to find out.

Briefly of BMW iX 2022

Despite the BMW iX electric SUV’s large front grille — which has offended some purists because an EV does not have a hot internal combustion engine behind it that needs air cooling (via Bloomberg Green) — it has delighted pundits and enthusiasts with its thoroughly high-tech overall design, mighty electric powertrain, luxurious interior, and smooth handling.

After debuting as the Vision iNext Concept in 2018, BMW’s first all-electric SUV is now available in two hot-off-the-grill flavors, the 2022 iX xDrive40 (not available in the US) and the 2022 iX xDrive50. The MSRP for the iX xDrive50 starts at an eye-popping $83,200 according to Kelley Blue Book. And if you don’t want to burn fossil fuels but do have plenty of money to burn, the iX also has a bevy of optional performance, interior, and other extra packages available to add to the luxury. You’ll find out about some of those here, along with all the rest of the best of this impressive all-electric SUV.

BMW iX Review 2022 – My Dream My Car

BMW iX Review 2022

For its introductory year, the iX comes in only one flavor, which BMW calls the xDrive50. Two electric motors — one at each axle — combine to produce a thumping 516 horsepower, enough to propel the iX from zero to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, BMW says. It won’t pin you to the seat like a Tesla Model X Plaid or Model Y Performance, but from our experience behind the wheel, we have no doubt that acceleration will far exceed the expectations of most drivers. The iX also instills confidence and encourages spirited drivers to attack the curves as though they were in a smaller, sportier vehicle.

The iX has about the same interior space as the current X5, and the model’s flat floor (there’s no center hump) allows for spacious rear seating. The cabin has some delightfully weird interior materials. The available blue-and-black upholstery color scheme, for example, treats the interior to textile and faux suede materials arranged in unusual, clashing patterns.

To say the iX is BMW’s most tech-heavy vehicle to date is an understatement. Highlights include an augmented reality overlay for the navigation system, an electrochromatic sunroof that switches from transparent to opaque at the press of a button, and a remote vehicle parking system that can remember how to enter and exit particularly tricky parking spots. The iX is also the first BMW to receive the iDrive 8 infotainment system, which features a new user interface, personalized user profiles with greater customization, and more robust voice controls.

Overall, we’re impressed with the iX. It offers a more refined and luxurious driving experience than the Tesla Model X and sportier performance than the Audi e-tron. It’s also as good as or better than any gasoline-powered midsize SUV, including BMW’s own praiseworthy X5. Check our test team’s Expert Rating below to learn about the iX’s performance, Edmunds-tested range, utility and more.

BMW iX Review 2022 : Frist Impressive Looks

No doubt about it, the 2022 BMW iX makes a bold first impression. From its polarizing exterior design to the holy-smokes-that’s-good interior to the onslaught of new onboard tech, there’s a ton of stuff to pore over before you even hit the road.

This iX crossover SUV is one of two new EVs coming to the US from the German automaker in 2022, and it’s the model the company has chosen to feature in its big Super Bowl LVI ad. But while the upcoming i4 is pretty much just a 4 Series Gran Coupe with an electric powertrain, the iX is a clean-sheet design from the ground up. It’s unlike anything else in BMW’s current portfolio.

It all starts with a composite space frame made of carbon-fiber reinforced plastics, aluminum and high-strength steel. Sound familiar? This is the same type of framework BMW used when building the i3 hatchback and i8 coupe, and just like those models, the iX’s body structure is as light as it is strong. Plus, it looks cool — lift the iX’s hatch and you’ll see the exposed CFRP shell along with inset taillights that illuminate when the tailgate is raised. Safety first.

Laid over that lightweight skeleton is the iX’s smooth skin, with slim horizontal lighting elements, textured surfacing on the faux front air intakes and a Roundel logo that doubles as a windshield fluid port. Yes, the iX has that grille, but instead of focusing on its size or design, check this out instead: The grille has a polyurethane coating that makes it less susceptible to damage, and the surface can actually fix itself. BMW says the self-healing effect takes about 24 hours when left at room temperature, but things like small rock chips and scrapes should quite literally fade away. Ugly? Yeah. Cool? Definitely.

It’s hard to get a sense of how big the iX is, especially in photos. At 195.0 inches long, 77.4 inches wide and 66.7 inches tall, the iX is about the size of a BMW X5 SUV, just a little shorter in height. In the US, the iX will come standard with 20-inch wheels and a range of 21- and 22-inch options will be available. The Sophisto grey car pictured here is rolling on 22s, and like so many modern vehicles, the iX really needs big wheels to make the overall design work.

BMW iX Review 2022 : Power & Performance

The BMW iX may be the result of some complex engineering, but the model line-up is refreshingly simple.

It kicks off with the 321bhp xDrive40. This version has an official range of 257 miles from its 71kWh battery and it’s quick: in our own tests it managed 0-60mph in 5.7 seconds. Mind you, on the same day, we timed an Audi E-tron 55 quattro doing the same 0-60mph run in 5.5sec, while we’ve previously timed the Jaguar I-Pace taking just 4.8sec.

It’s not just speed where the xDrive40 falls behind the curve, either, because its battery performance is rather disappointing for a cutting-edge electric SUV. In real-world conditions (admittedly on a chilly November day), the efficiency of our test car equated to a real-world range of just 178 miles.

Granted, the E-tron 55 wasn’t much better at 182 miles, but that car has been on sale a lot longer. If you need to go further on a charge, you’ll get more than 200 miles from an I-Pace on a similarly cold day.

So, if you’re considering an iX as a luxury SUV to cover big miles in, the xDrive40 doesn’t quite cut the mustard. You’ll want to step up to the xDrive50 model with its larger 105kWh battery and impressive 380-mile official range. With 516bhp and a whopping 564ft lb of torque channelled through the advanced four-wheel drive system, even a small flex of your right foot is enough to fire you towards the horizon very quickly.

Its official 0-62mph time of 4.6sec is impressive, but it won’t be the fastest iX. That honour will go to the M60 version coming soon. It’ll have 610bhp on tap and hurtle to 62mph in 3.8sec. We’ll let you know what it’s like once we’ve had the chance to drive one.

Despite an impressive turn of pace, the iX is not an SUV that particularly enjoys being hustled down a tight and twisty B-road. You’ll feel its weight when you turn into a corner at speed and the steering is uncharacteristically light for a BMW.

Ultimately, if you want a more nimble electric SUV, the smaller BMW iX3 and I-Pace are better bets, but the iX is hardly a wallowy barge.

BMW iX Review 2022 : Range and Battery Life

The iX sports a large 105.2-kWh battery pack that the EPA estimates will offer up to 324 miles of driving range per charge. When we tested the iX on our 75-mph highway fuel economy test we were surprised by its range. Normally, highway driving quickly reduces the overall driving range of an EV and the result is a fraction of its overall range estimate, but the iX recorded an impressive 290 miles of range in our test.

DC fast charging capability is standard and the iX can recharge from 10 percent to 80 percent in just 35 minutes when hooked up to a 200-kW connection. BMW has partnered with EVgo to provide a network of public charging stations for iX drivers, but the SUV is able to charge on other popular networks, as well as through a Level 2 home charging station.

BMW iX Review 2022 : Comfort Driving

First up, the new hexagonal steering feels great to hold. Then, incredibly, when I move it, it seems to have zero latency or delay. Move it even a little and the iX responds faithfully, without over reacting. It’s so direct and so well calibrated, it’s positively refreshing.

Adding to the feeling of effortless agility is the manner in which the iX covers ground. There’s a lightness of foot here that makes you feel you are piloting only a light chassis, no heavy body attached to it. The iX incidentally weighs 2.4 tonnes. While the steering is lightly weighted by BMW standards, and that connected feel you get in a 3 Series isn’t quite there, what it still has is an engaging sense of precision, and that’s especially noticeable on turn-in.

The iX, however, rolls early due to the heavy battery pack. This isn’t terribly disconcerting as anti-roll bars soon come into play and limit weight transfer. What helps is that the iX has a good amount of poise, it always feels in control of its weight and then what gives me loads of confidence is that it has plenty of grip.

Sport mode tightens up things a bit, and more weight is added to the steering, which is nice. And for an SUV this heavy, the iX encourages you to drive harder and faster. BMW’s rear bias even makes its presence felt once I show more commitment.

Where the iX doesn’t quite feel like a BMW is when it comes to ride quality. Ride is fantastic for an SUV and body movements are so well controlled and damped, the iX almost glides limo-like over small ridges and medium-sized bumps. It does thump through deeper ruts in the road and big potholes may pose a challenge too – we didn’t encounter any on our route – but ride quality in general is so good, it could be a highlight, even on our roads.

Performance isn’t quite slam-you-in-the-back strong on the iX40 though. Programmed to deliver a smooth surge of propulsion once you get going, the iX, on the other hand, manages to sustain thrust better than other electrics after the initial surge. In fact, the high-revving qualities of the motors ensure that the iX continues to pull strongly well past 100kph, the said figure coming up in a claimed 6.1sec.

I do miss having paddles behind the steering wheel though for regeneration, and adjustment for the latter is buried in a menu. What we couldn’t test was ground clearance. With no speed breakers around (imagine that), it was near impossible. BMW, however, says there’s sufficient leeway here. The iX has a clearance of 177mm when loaded and around 190mm when unloaded, depending on the suspension and spec. And that should be sufficient.

BMW iX Review 2022 : Infotainment and Connectivity

BMW is using the iX SUV and the i4 sedan as the launchpad for its next-generation infotainment interface, which it calls iDrive 8. The software allows for customization of menus and graphics, as well as a voice-activated assistant. A large 14.9-inch infotainment display combines with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster to create the iX’s tech-forward dashboard design.

Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard across the board, and BMW also offers a Wi-Fi hotspot with a 5G cellular connection. An 18-speaker Harman/Kardon stereo system is standard; a 30-speaker Bowers & Wilkins setup is an option.

Our Opinion

As an overall package the BMW iX 2022 Electric is an impressive car. It offers buyers a choice of versions, has an appealing design and an interior that is far better than anything the brand has previously offered for sale. The electric drivetrain and charging system’s performance gives the BMW an edge over many of its rivals.
