Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Bike” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022”.

Husqvarna Motorcycles, long known for its off-road prowess, continues the plunge into the sort-of street bike market with its Svartpilen 410. Set up like an urban scrambler, Husky bills the Svartpilen as an entry-level commuter/explorer with an easy-to-ride and fun nature.

A 375 cc thumper drives the “Black Arrow” with 43 horsepower under the control of a ride-by-wire throttle and slipper clutch that couples engine power to the six-speed gearbox. Suspension and rolling gear reflect a certain amount of off-road capability useful for soft surfaces.

Highlights of Husqvarna Svartpilen 401

The Husqvarna 401 twins received their last significant updates in 2019 in the form of new colours, updated graphics, and a 40mm longer subframe along with a larger rear seat. The motor and powertrain remain unchanged.

The Svartpilen 401 is powered by the same 373.3cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor as the KTM 390 Duke. It makes 43.5PS and 37Nm. The bike employs a steel trellis frame suspended on WP 43mm USD forks and a WP monoshock. It is anchored by a large 320mm disc up front and a 230mm rear disc with dual-channel ABS.

Husqvarna may not launch the 2022 Svartpilen 401 in India as even the more affordable 250cc versions — the Svartpilen 250 and Vitpilen 250 — aren’t really raking in healthy numbers in the country.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 is expected to launch in India in October 2022 in the expected price range of ₹ 2,70,000 to ₹ 2,80,000. Currently available bikes which are similar to Svartpilen 401 are KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R & Husqvarna Svartpilen 250. Another bike similar to Svartpilen 401 is Yamaha MT 03 which is launching in October 2022 in India.

Husqvarna is originally a Swedish brand that is now owned by KTM. Its products will sit above the Austrian manufacturer’s, and the styling, feature sets and pricing will reflect that.

One of the first roadgoing products of the new generation of Huskies will be the Svartpilen 401. The name means ‘Black Arrow’ and it styled as a scrambler. Hence the spoke rims, dual-purpose tyres and upright seating position. It will be a 390 Duke under the skin, so expect the same razor-sharp handling, and the 43bhp/37Nm 373cc single-cylinder motor. Suspension will be provided by WP and brakes by ByBre.

The Svartpilen 401 is scheduled to launch in the Indian market by 2020. This will be a good time for the brand to launch, because the new emission norms will force new products to offer a slew of features and up their desirability quotient – things that the Svartpilen was made to offer from Day 1.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022 : Impressive Looks

When compared to most of the other neo-retro themed motorcycles in the market, the Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 dares to stand out. The Svartpilen 401 embodies the Swedish-minimalist design with a strong focus on the whole “less-is-more.” The one-piece side panels on each side have few but very intentful body lines.

The front and rear of the motorcycle come with very simple yet striking design elements—a cool and luminous single round headlight, and a bright and deep red square tail light at the rear. The most striking design element of the 401 is the fuel tank which features a flat fuel tank with a luggage rack on top for tank bags and other luggage items.

Apart from the edgy design of the body, the Svartpilen 401 also comes equipped with a pair of Pirelli Rally Scorpion STR tires which are designed to go on and off road. The big block tires paired with the wide handlebar and edgy design gives the 401 a futuristic and post-apocalyptic vibe—built to tackle all kinds of urban adventures no matter the terrain.

Overall, we found the Svartpilen 401 to have a very iconic design which definitely sets itself apart from most of the other neo-retro motorcycle options in the market. If you’re looking for a motorcycle to stand out against the crowd, this pocket rocket is worth your consideration.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

Husky powers the Svartpilen 401 with a liquid-cooled, 373 cc four-cycle one-lunger that uses a counter-balance shaft to combat the often vicious vibrations normally associated with thumpers. Good thing, cause the tingly hands and butt set in pretty quickly on the older, less compassionately designed one-cylinder mills.

A DOHC times the four-valve head with a 46 mm throttle body and Bosch EFI to manage the mixture with ride-by-wire throttle control and Bosch engine management unit. If you think the fancy throttle is a prelude to some electronic engine wizardry such as TC or rider modes, we got some bad news for ya; there are no such systems on the table at this time, but that’s not exactly surprising considering the pressure to keep prices low for the younger buyers this ride is mainly aimed at grabbing.

An 89 mm bore and 60 mm stroke gives us the 375 cc displacement with a smokin’ hot 12.6-to-1 compression ratio, and that’s largely from whence the power springs. At 9,000 rpm, the mill cranks out 44 horsepower with 27 pound-feet of torque that develops by 7 grand; not exactly Earth-shattering numbers, but bear in mind the thing only weighs 330 pounds before you but the fuel in it, so that’s enough power to have some fun with. Not sure I’d brave the interstate on it, though.

A slipper clutch provides the anti-hop protection and lightens the clutch-lever pull while the six-speed transmixxer crunches the gear ratios and a chain-type final drive carry the final product to the pavement.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022 : Performance

Considering its powered by a sub-400cc single, the Svartpilen is a brilliant performer but then, being based on the KTM 390 Duke you probably knew that already. The liquid-cooled, 375cc, DOHC single is impressively slick and high tech, thrives on revs and is far smoother than you might expect. Thrash it as KTM/Husky intended and you’ll see around 100mph and have an absolute ball – as long as the road’s not too straight. But it’s also impressively responsive and grunty lower down, too.

A similar slim lightness to the 390 Duke (and identical brakes, comprising a big, single front disc grasped by a meaty, Bybre, radial-mounted four piston caliper) means it’s got impressive stopping power, too. Up to the limit of the fashion victim semi-knobbly scrambler-style tyres, the Svartpilen thrives on hard braking and having its nose buried in the tarmac. As we said, it’s a brilliant B-road blaster.

With the same lightweight tubular steel trellis frame, aggressive steering geometry and decent quality, WP suspension (comprising beefy 43mm inverted forks and a preload adjustable single rear shock) as the 390 Duke, you’d expect the Svartpilen 401 to be a fine handler – nimble, sharp steering, instinctive and yet with a quality ride, too – and you’d be right. It’s involving and fun on twisty roads like only a quality lightweight single can be.

But it’s also reasonable when cruising on faster roads with a smooth, controlled ride. The only reason we’re not giving it five out of five here is due to the compromised grip of the semi-knobbly tyres. Although they’re actually better than they look they certainly limit the handling experience a tad.

Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 Review 2022 : Riding & Comfort

Just like any other naked motorcycle in the market, the Svartpilen 401 comes with a rider triangle that’s built to be upright and comfortable. The upward sweeping handlebar with a crossbar complements the mid-to-rear set footpegs for an upright seating position. Seat height comes in at a relatively tall 838 mm or 33 inches, however since the motorcycle comes in at a featherweight 152kg and comes with a narrow seat, managing the heft of the motorcycle with one foot down will often be an easy task to manage. The narrow and slender seat might look a little bit uncomfortable at first, but is actually very pleasant to ride with for 1 to 2 hour stints on the saddle.

Overall, the Svartpilen 401 makes for a very comfortable ride for the task it was built to do—conquer the urban jungle without tiring the rider out. If anything, the only drawbacks to comfort would be the seat, which might be a bit difficult to use for a whole day’s worth of riding or any longer tour. Travelling at three-digit speeds on the highway can also feel tiresome after a few hours of riding. The lack of wind protection at the front means riders will be getting the full blast of wind from the front, and the light weight of the motorcycle also means that riders will feel crosswinds a little bit more than on other motorcycles.

That being said, the 401 makes for a great machine for most if not all urban rides and half-day stints out of town. If you’re thinking of using the 401 as a bonafide adventurer or long-distance tourer, you might be better off with a KTM 390 Adventure or Honda CB500X instead.

Our Opinion

The relationship between Husqvarna and its parent KTM is well known by now, as is the fact that the ‘Pilen 401s are based on the Duke 390 platform. In fact, the Svartpilen 401 and Vitpilen 401 (as well as the 125) are all now manufactured by Bajaj Auto in India, at the same factory that produces KTM’s entire 390 range.
