Both motorcycles will be launched sometime this year.

Royal Enfield has a bunch of new motorcycles lined up, one of which is the Shotgun 650. The bike has been spotted testing and can be seen equipped with all kinds of testing equipment. The upcoming offering is expected to be the fourth 650 cc motorcycle from the company after the INT 650, Continental GT 650 and the rumoured Super Meteor 650. The Shotgun 650 is expected to be a single-seater bobber variant and is likely to be positioned at a premium over the upcoming Super Meteor 650. Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review 2022

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is expected to launch in India in November 2022 in the expected price range of ₹ 3,00,000 to ₹ 3,50,000. Currently available bikes which are similar to Shotgun 650 are Royal Enfield Interceptor 650, Keeway K-Light 250V & Kawasaki Vulcan S. Another bike similar to Shotgun 650 is Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 which is launching in November 2022 in India.

Royal Enfield unveiled the all-new SG650 Twin concept motorcycle at the 2021 EICMA show in Milan. While the company has not mentioned it yet, we know that SG stands for Shotgun and this concept will most likely act as the base platform for Royal Enfield’s upcoming bobber-styled motorcycle.

The design elements on the concept motorcycle comprise a single floating-style seat, a short tubular handlebar, chopped front and rear fender, bar-end mirrors, and chunky tyres. The styling cues further include a retro-styled polished aluminium finish to the front end and digital graphics like new-age motorcycles on the fuel tank. The 650cc, parallel-twin engine, too, is adorned with digital graphics.

The concept motorcycle also featured a CNC billet machine fuel tank, wheels made out of a solid aluminium block with integrated ABS, dual disc brakes at the front, upside-down front forks, and hand-stitched black leather seat. However, the final production model will be a much more toned-down version.

The details about the mechanical specifications aren’t available yet, although we expect the numbers to be similar to the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650. The 648cc, parallel-twin engine on the Interceptor INT 650 and the Continental GT 650 makes 47bhp at 7,250rpm and 52Nm of peak torque at 5,250rpm.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will most likely use the same cycle parts as the upcoming Super Meteor 650. However, it will get notable styling differences. The single-seat bobber styling will also attract a number of buyers overseas with its more dedicated styling approach.

In terms of powertrain, the RE Shotgun 650 will carry the 649 cc parallel-twin air-cooled engine from the 650 Twins. The power figures could be different on the motorcycle but are likely to be in the whereabouts of 47 bhp and 52 Nm. The gear ratios on the 6-speed gearbox could be tweaked on the SG650.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review 2022 : Impressive Looks

Royal Enfield has over the years made a reputation for bringing retro-looking classic cruiser bikes. When Royal Enfield launches a bike, there are very high chances that the bike would continue dominating the market for many years. This is clearly evident from its products like the Bullet and the Classic. The brand has clearly laid out its plan of launching a new bike every three months. One of the planned bikes for this year could be the Shotgun 650. In this article, we have mentioned everything we know about the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650.

Royal Enfield teased the Shotgun 650 Concept at the Milan Motorcycle Show (EICMA). The concept clearly hinted towards a big and good-looking retro bike that will come based on the concept. The Shotgun 650 is expected to get the classic Bobber body styling, with one exhaust tips on each side and a single seat. The bike has already been spotted a couple of times and we expect it to be one-of-a-kind offering from the brand.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 will share its engine with the existing 650 twins. This means it will be powered by a 648cc air-and oil-cooled parallel-twin engine that makes 47bhp & 52Nm torque. This engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 might get the same instrument cluster as the Meteor 350 and the Scram 411. This instrument cluster could thus get an analog speedometre, fuel level indicator, clock, odometre, and two trip metres. A colour display with Bluetooth phone connectivity is also expected to be on offer.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

Powering the bike will be the same 648cc parallel-twin engine that does duty on the Interceptor and the Continental GT. On these bikes the engine produces 47hp of maximum power and 52Nm of peak torque. Whether these numbers change on the bobber we will have to see, but they shouldn’t be too different. Gearbox duties will be handled by a 6-speed transmission.

the Shotgun 650 will employ a beefy set of upside-down forks to handle suspension duties up front, unlike the conventional telescopic units we see on the current 650 twins. At the rear, we can expect a dual shock absorber setup. Braking seems to be a single disc at the front along with one at the rear with biting force coming from ByBre calipers. Dual-channel ABS should come as standard.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review 2022 : Performance

When the Royal Enfield SG650 shed its veil at the EICMA 2021, everyone stopped and stared. Even the international media went berserk over the concept. Lucky for us, it has finally started transforming into reality. The SG650 or Shotgun 650 as it is most likely to be called in its production avatar, has been spied testing on Indian soil.

Commendable job by Royal Enfield to camouflage the bike as the boxy structures hide away all the body panels underneath. It is most likely going to retain the circular headlamp setup as we have witnessed on the SG650 concept. The prime takeaway from the spy video is the riding posture as the test rider can be seen hunching a bit forward to grip the handlebar. It looks like it is not going to be as comfy as its super-popular cousin – the Interceptor 650. The Shotgun 650 is expected to become the most expensive Royal Enfield to date, placing itself above the soon-to-be-launched Super Meteor.

This single-seater Bobber variant of the Super Meteor will most probably borrow its cycle parts from the Super Meteor. But aesthetically speaking, it is going to command a world of a difference and is also expected to don fancy new clothes as its concept version. The Shotgun 650 will also make do with USD forks, courtesy of Super Meteor. In terms of performance, this thumper will derive the go from a 650cc parallel-twin air-cooled engine that we absolutely adore. This unit hasn’t been updated significantly since the time it marked its debut on the 650 twins, so it is quite possible that RE could play around with the internals to squeeze out some more juice. The overall performance figures might vary but the overall experience and refinement are likely to remain the same.

Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 Review 2022 : Riding & Comfort

The Shotgun 650cc styling is quite similar to the RE SG650 Concept. Likely spotted testing for range, the prototype is seen with connected wires and a top box. Featuring circular LED headlamps and halogen bulbs blinkers, the cruiser bike gets a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, rearview mirrors and a wide rear mudguard.

Moreover, the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is witnessed with central footpegs, a single seat and pulled-back handlebars. The new RE bike is expected to come equipped with a semi-digital instrument panel along with the Tripper navigation, a USB charger, LED lighting and Bluetooth connectivity.

Suspension duties will be performed by USD forks at the front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, the bike will receive front and rear disc brakes along with the dual-channel ABS. The bike is likely to receive 19-inch wheels at the front and 17-inch wheels at the rear.

The Chennai-based bikemaker has yet to reveal the mechanical details of the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650, however, we expect it to get a 648cc air-cooled parallel-twin engine. Featuring a similar mill as the Royal Enfield 650 twins, the Shotgun engine is mated to a six-speed transmission and it is expected to generate 47 hp power and 52 Nm torque.

Our Opinion

The much-awaited 650cc Royal Enfield cruiser motorcycle has been spotted testing multiple times on the Indian roads. The upcoming bike features USD front forks, a low-slung riding position, twin exhaust system, fat tyres, and a circular instrument console with a tripper navigation system. As per one of the recent media reports, the 650cc RE cruiser would be launching in India as SG 650 (ShotGun 650).
