Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 – My Dream My Car : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Car” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Tesla Model 3 Review 2022”.

The 2022 Tesla Model 3 is the smallest and most affordable offering from the California-based all-electric automaker. After making a number of updates for 2021 that included an upgraded interior, increased range on a full charge, and additional standard features, Tesla is keeping things pretty much the same for the 2022 Model 3. There are a few minor upgrades, such as a quicker processor for the infotainment system, but overall the Model 3’s key attributes continue to be its excellent range, strong performance, and comfortable and spacious interior.

Tesla’s early start has given the company a boost when it comes to the entire package. The Model 3 is still a hugely compelling sedan, and despite some of our frustrations with less-than-advertised range and cumbersome tech, it’s well worth a look if you’re in the market for an electric vehicle. Check out our test team’s Expert Rating for our in-depth evaluation of the Model 3’s performance, range and more.

The Model 3 delivers an impressive driving experience compared to other non-luxury electric vehicles. Its minimalistic interior design feels chic, modern and upscale. The rear-wheel-drive layout and powerful electric motor also provide natural athleticism and quicker acceleration than anything in its price range. If you’re in the market for an electric vehicle, the Model 3 is virtually unbeatable for the price.

Briefly of Tesla Model 3

The Tesla Model 3 was a pretty revolutionary car when it first came out. It took the Tesla brand, which is famous for its world-class luxury EVs, and brought it to a more accessible price point in the form of a practical sedan. The Model 3 has the Tesla virtues of excellent range, a premium high-tech interior, and outstanding performance, all in a reasonably affordable package.

The Model 3 got some nice updates in 2021, like refreshed styling inside and out and increased range. Because of these recent updates, there are no significant changes for 2022. It remains a unique choice in electric cars with few direct competitors at this price point with this kind of range. The closest competitor to the Model 3 is the Polestar 2, but there are only a handful of Polestar retailers in the country.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 – My Dream My Car

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022

The Model 3 flies in the face of the car industry’s obsession to rush headlong into the arms of the lardy SUV. It’s a relatively compact thing, and its modest dimensions strike you the moment you clap eyes on it. At 4694mm long and 2088mm wide, including door mirrors, it’s shorter than the established junior execs, such as the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4, but has managed to remain recognisably a Tesla thanks to its low nose, tapering rear and ample glasshouse. Think of it as a Model S scaled down and viewed from the bottom of a beer glass.

It might share the Model S’s nose and rump, but this is a more conventional saloon rear end, albeit one whose boot is cleverly hinged to allow a deep opening. For those looking for increased practicality, then we suggest the Tesla Model Y, which is to the 3 what the Model X is to the S. The same but a bit taller, basically. It should hit the UK in March 2022.

It’s worth pointing out that battery capacities are not confirmed by Tesla these days. Perhaps anxious not to be pumping out cells that will be superseded each year, the company merely quotes the new, numberless model names instead.

The entry-level Model 3 has a WLTP range of 305 miles, the Performance stretches this to 340 miles, while the Long Range (unsurprisingly) has the longest range, at 374 miles. The entry-level model is rear-wheel drive only with a single motor; the top two have dual motors and all-wheel drive.

On a cold December morning we collected a Standard Range Plus car (which is what the entry-level Model 3 was then called) indicating it had 219 miles of range, and after a 48-mile journey (mostly on the motorway, with the heating, heated seats and stereo all in operation) that figure had fallen to 160 miles. So the Model 3 still loses more range than miles driven in low temperatures – a common trait among electric cars – but it still performs better than most of its battery-powered rivals in these conditions.

Specification of Tesla Model 3

The Model 3 is roughly the same size as the BMW 3 Series and there are currently three versions to choose from: an entry-level model called simply the RWD, a Long Range version designed to (yep, you guessed it) maximise distances between charges, and a range-topping Performance variant that promises Porsche 911 beating acceleration.

In the world of pure electric cars, the closest rival to the Model 3 is the Polestar 2. You might also find yourself considering the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 or possibly even higher-riding options, such the Audi Q4 E-tron.

However, officially at least, the Tesla Model 3 can manage a longer distance between battery charges than any of those alternatives. It can charge up really quickly too, at one of the abundant Tesla Superchargers dotted around the country.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 : Frist Impressive Looks

The Model 3 is vital to Tesla’s future. It forms the latest stage of what CEO Elon Musk refers to as the company’s ‘Secret Master Plan’. Step one was the Tesla Roadster, intended to show that electric vehicles didn’t have to be as awful as the few that were available at the time (such as the REVA G-Wiz).

Step two was accomplished with the Model S. It’s this car that’s launched Tesla into the world of car manufacturing as a major player – positioned as it is as a mid-market, luxury executive which shows that electric cars can be practical, useful, and affordable.

And now we’re on step three: the Tesla Model 3. An affordable mass-market car, which the company hopes will become as much of a viable choice for normal car buyers as any combustion-engined vehicle.

Positioned as it is under the Model S, the Model 3 is understandably smaller – but it does retain its bigger brother’s styling details. The overall shape is very similar, with a long, low body made up of smooth curves. That’s all thanks to the flexibility of the electric drivetrain, which takes up very little room.

Round the front, the Model 3 does have a curiously unfinished look due to its lack of a grille. Admittedly, the grille details on its sister cars are purely cosmetic, as the electric drivetrains don’t require as much cooling – but it does rather stick out in a world still largely populated by combustion-engined cars.

The Model 3 will be a five-seater car, and like its Model S and Model X siblings it will have two boots, one at the front and one at the rear. It offers up an incredibly minimalist interior – every function is operated through a single 15.4” screen in the centre of the dashboard. This screen will contains driving instrumentation, with speed and gear selection displayed in the corner nearest the driver. The rest of the screen is given over to maps, media, and climate controls.

The Spartan interior doesn’t have any visible air vents, but it’s been speculated that a slim gap in the dash will provide ventilation for the whole car, aiding the hushed environment within.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 : Power & Performance

Tesla has built a reputation for making cars that accelerate quicker than just about anything else on the road; the Model 3 follows suit, regardless of the specific powertrain.

The entry-level, rear-drive Model 3 is lighter than its more powerful counterpart thanks to a lack of a second electric motor, so it should feel a little more agile. Performance stats are decent, with the cheapest Model 3 easily able to keep up with similar-sized EVs.

Those looking for the ultimate driving experience will be best served by the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive Performance version. Acceleration is breathtaking, with incredible off-the-line performance and effortless overtaking. There’s enough power on tap to make short work of some of the fastest performance saloons around in most everyday situations.

Ride and handling aren’t quite up to the same awe-inspiring standards, but are still very impressive. The Model 3’s steering feels quite meaty in all its modes and is accurate if not terribly communicative. The suspension feels firm but not uncomfortable, with good damping that manages to deal well with lumps and bumps.

The Model 3 can’t quite match the BMW 3 Series for ride/handling balance or outright driving fun, and, while its ride comfort is better resolved, the Tesla can’t quite rival the Polestar 2 for handling feel. The Mustang Mach-E is more rewarding to drive altogether, even though it lags behind the Tesla on outright performance.

Elsewhere, the Model 3’s brakes are powerful, smooth and progressive – not overly grabby as in some other EVs – and the car’s considerable weight is kept under control thanks to low-slung batteries and well judged chassis tuning. Overall, the Model 3 is a great steer – just don’t expect the last word in sporty dynamics.

The entry-level Rear-Wheel Drive model manages 0-60mph in 5.8 seconds and go on to a top speed of 140mph thanks to a single 180kW motor, while the Model 3 Performance uses two electric motors to produce 335kW of power – the equivalent of 449bhp. That’s enough for a supercar-rivalling 0-60mph dash of 3.1 seconds and a 162mph top speed.

The Long Range AWD model still uses two motors but sacrifices a little performance in the name of an increased range: 0-60mph takes 4.2 seconds, but there’s a claimed range of 374 miles.

Tesla Model e Review 2022 : Range and Battery Performance

The Model 3 comes with either a single rear motor or a dual motor configuration, with one at the front and the rear. The Tesla Model 3 has a single-speed, fixed-gear transmission.

The AC, liquid-cooled rear motor on the Standard Range Plus and Performance AWD models are rated for 800 amps and produce up to 202kW at 5,000rpm with a claimed 420Nm. On the Long Range AWD, the rear motor current measures 600 amps, producing 180kW (at 6,000rpm) and 404Nm. The front motor draws a maximum current of 600 amps. It’ll make 137kW @ 6,380rpm and 240Nm of torque.

The battery for the Model 3 was developed in partnership with Panasonic. It is a liquid-cooled Lithium-Ion battery, with a typical voltage of 355.2V. Figures online suggest the battery capacity is 50kWh for the Standard Range Plus model and 75kWh on the AWD Model 3.

Though it isn’t the fastest Tesla on sale (the Model S boasts that accolade, with a bonkers 0–100 of 2.6 seconds), the Model 3 isn’t exactly slow either, even in standard form. In fact, reviewers said the acceleration was immediate and kicked you back into your seat. Fortunately, Tesla provides a “Chill” mode, for those who don’t need or want blistering pace from the off. Motoring experts found the Tesla worked on all roads, from crawling, traffic-peppered urban streets to fast country roads and highways.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 : Comfort Driving

There’s lots of anecdotal evidence that people who buy a Tesla Model 3 (or any Tesla) will give a number of demonstrations to family and friends of the incredible acceleration, resulting in passengers being amazed/shocked/terrified.

This is because the Model 3 Long Range Dual Motor can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds, and the Performance model reaches the same speed in just 3.1 seconds – which is Ferrari territory. If you opt for a Model 3 with all-wheel drive, due to the grip levels, this intensity of acceleration can be achieved on wet roads.

Early examples of the Model 3 had poor ride quality and there were various rattles from the suspension. Tesla has since made changes to the suspension and the latest examples of the Model 3 have a much more comfortable ride. This also means that the handling through corners is more enjoyable.

The Model 3 has a gear selector (which will be familiar to Mercedes drivers) on the right-hand side of the steering column. Apart from the steering wheel and a stalk for the indicators, there are no other physical controls on the dashboard. All other controls, along with driving information, are accessed via the touchscreen – allowing Tesla to carry out over-the-air updates for virtually all car controls.

You would expect satnav mapping to be on the touchscreen, but you may not expect the screen also to be used to control items such as the adjustment of the steering wheel position and the mirrors, and even the windscreen wipers.

You can also adjust items such as the accelerator response, the degree of brake regeneration and the steering weight via the touchscreen.

The Tesla Model 3 features Autopilot, which is an industry-leading system to enable the car to drive itself – as far as the law allows. The various cameras, sensors and radar allow the touchscreen to provide three-dimensional graphics of vehicles and other objects around the car while you’re driving, which provides reassurance that the car knows what’s surrounding it.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 : Infotainment and Connectivity

Navigation, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity are standard, but the Model 3 is oddly not available with AM radio or SiriusXM satellite radio. Several internet-streaming radio options are standard. It also can’t be equipped with Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. To make charging-station layovers more bearable, the Model 3 offers plenty of entertainment options on its central display, including Netflix, YouTube, and a host of arcade games.

Tesla Model 3 Review 2022 : Unique Features

1. Supercharger Network

While this is not a unique feature of the Model 3, Tesla are highly famous only because of this. The supercharger network in the US is pretty close to gas station network, which leads to 50% popularity of the car. The Tesla Model 3 being affordable in the international market also has all the features of a futuristic car.

2. Autopilot mode

This is one of the most unique features of the Tesla Model 3. However this feature may not be available in India. With this feature, your Tesla Model 3 can easily drive itself around inside a speed limit and reduce some of your stress while driving. This feature in the international market too can only be used in expressways/freeways.

3. Sentry Mode

Sentry mode is a software update which allows you to record from the 8 cameras present on the car. So if anyone harms your car while you are absent, you always have video evidence to back you up. This feature can also be used while you are driving your car.

4. 50:50 split rear seats

While majority cars in India come with bench seats and some with 60:40 split rear seat, the Tesla Model 3 comes with a 50:50 split rear seat contributing to more storage space.

5. Front Trunk: Frunk

Like other EVs in the market, the Tesla Model 3 also comes with storage space on the front of the car. Though not huge, it can easily store small luggage. Car Accessories and charger can be tucked here.

6. Hidden Games/Easter Eggs

Elon Musk owns Tesla and he himself is a light-hearted guy. Thus you can surely expect some surprises with the car. Click on T of Tesla and scroll up and this brings out the menu of hidden games. Many new games are also included. Chess, Beach buggy are some popular games. The new Tesla Model S is also expected to come with a powerful infotainment system which can play modern AAA titles.

7. Glass Roof

The Tesla Model 3’s styling is so unique because of its glass roof and other unique looking components. While this may seem a hazard in India, the glass roof actually looks pretty cool with the car. It also enhances the overall size of the car in appearance. People in India love sunroofs and the Tesla Model 3 will never disappoint anyone in this category here.

8. Hidden Air Vents

The interiors of the Tesla Model 3 are pretty minimalistic with a giant touchscreen stealing the show. However there are hidden air vents just above the wooden panel for your air conditioning/heating. These air vents go unnoticed and will surely surprise people about the source of the air in the cabin. You can also adjust the air vents drastically with the touchscreen infotainment system. There is also a dedicated Dog mode in this car which leaves everything ON for creature comfort. You can also control the temperature wirelessly before starting any trip.

9. Custom Driver profile

Cars in India mainly have one driver that does the driving but that is slowly changing. In modern times, everyone is learning to drive cars and not everyone is of the same dimension. So with this feature, you can set different driver profiles which adjust the driver seat height, steering wheel and IRVM based on your personal preference. A very handy feature when multiple drivers drive the same car. Tesla Model 3 also comes with auto-pilot and other advanced safety features which also can be adjusted by this.

10. Bluetooth keyless entry

With this feature, in the Tesla Model 3, you can use your Android/iOS phone as the Tesla Model 3 key. Also you do not need to do anything physically with the phone. Even if the phone is in your pocket, Model 3 senses it and automatically unlocks the door.

Our Opinion

As an overall package the Tesla Model 3 Electric is an impressive car. It offers buyers a choice of versions, has an appealing design and an interior that is far better than anything the brand has previously offered for sale. The electric drivetrain and charging system’s performance gives the Tesla an edge over many of its rivals.
