Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 – My Dream My Car : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Car” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022”.

The Volkswagen ID.4 is a spacious electric car with a modern, minimalist interior. It’s not the sleekest looking SUV though and you may struggle to get near the claimed range.

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 is an all-electric SUV that offers a balanced ride and adult-friendly seating, but some of its infotainment and cabin controls are very unintuitive.

Briefly of Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022

The Volkswagen ID.4 is a good electric SUV. It has a fairly lengthy driving range, and its fuel economy estimates are on par with the class average. The ID.4 has balanced driving dynamics, and acceleration is quick from a standstill. Additionally, the cabin has spacious seating and cargo areas.

On the flip side, this VW’s infotainment system is operated via a touch screen and haptic buttons, with no physical controls, which can make it difficult to adjust settings on the go.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 – My Dream My Car

Friends, You love SUVs and more and more of you are loving electric cars, so the new Volkswagen ID4 electric SUV has come along just at the right time – especially as you have to wait a bit for likely alternatives such as the Tesla Model Y and Nissan Ariya.

The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4’s #5 ranking is based on its score within the Electric SUVs category. Currently the Volkswagen ID.4 has a score of 7.7 out of 10, which is based on our evaluation of 26 pieces of research and data elements using various sources.

The VW ID.4 is about the same size as Tiguan and should be just as practical – but a bit more futuristic-looking. If you and your sibling are the VW Golf and Tiguan, then the ID3 and ID4 are a bit like your posh cousins who always have the latest fashion and tech.

The ID.4 is supposed to follow the look of the ID3 and it like that car, it has slim LED headlights connected by a full-width LED light bar, while a large intake sits low on the bumper. You’ll spot that there’s no grille (electric cars don’t need them because they don’t have a hot engine to cool).

But with a high bonnet and bulbous back end, the ID4 is a bit blobby and heavy-looking.

It has a more simple design inside, though. For a start, there’s no gearlever — rather, you simply twist a large knob behind the steering wheel, similar to that on a BMW i3. However, the wheel obscures the switch, so you have to crane around the rim to see it.

Speaking of that driver’s display, it gives you key information, such as speed and charge status, on a sharp display. For other functions, there’s a 10-inch infotainment system.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : First Impressive Looks

Volkswagen debuted its ID.4 electric SUV just last year. In terms of size, it’s a little bit smaller than the brand’s Tiguan SUV. But thanks to the inherent design efficiencies of an EV, the ID.4 actually has a similarly spacious interior as the Tiguan and other small SUVs. It also boasts many of the same attributes, such as a roomy cargo area, available all-wheel drive and a raised seating position.

There are a few changes for the ID.4. First up is a slight boost to the ID.4’s maximum range on a full charge. The EPA estimates the 2022 model will go 2-20 miles farther than last year, depending on the trim level. Our test team has yet to run a 2022 ID.4 through our real-world EV range test, but the car’s updates should only add to the car’s competitive distance. For example, we tested a 2021 ID.4 Pro with all-wheel drive and it went 272 miles on a full charge. That’s similar to the results we’ve gotten from other all-electric small SUVs with AWD.

The ID.4 is also capable of slightly higher DC fast-charging speeds than before, which means you should be able to spend less time at one of these rapid chargers — assuming you’re connected to one of the appropriate power output. Finally, VW says it has simplified the charging procedure at Electrify America stations. This is welcome news as we’ve previously found the process to be oddly cumbersome considering that VW owns Electrify America.

More and more electric SUVs are coming to the market. The Tesla Model Y is essentially a household name at this point, and Ford’s Mustang Mach-E is sporty enough to warrant its iconic badge. Other compelling options are the new Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and upcoming Nissan Ariya. Read our test team’s Expert Rating below to help you decide if this electric VW is best for you.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : Performance

Volkswagen ID.4 is over two tonnes with the big-battery option, so the 201bhp of the Pro Performance isn’t going to warp the horizon. The zero-to-62 figure, 8.5 seconds, makes it sound like a better overtaker than it is. We timed an ID.4 using a GPS tracker and found it actually did the 0-60 sprint in 7.9 sec, which is healthy, but what constitutes ‘in-gear’ punch is still on the leisurely side.

That doesn’t matter most of the time, as like any EV it picks up the instant you ask, and the delivery is super-controllable. In urban driving you notice the well-calibrated pedal too, as it moves you away from rest with creamy smoothness rather than a jolt.

The extra motor up front boosts power to a significant 295bhp and drops the 0-62mph time to 6.2 seconds, but because of the electric drivetrain and a hefty focus on safety it just doesn’t feel any different to the standard car. Slightly more alert, yes, but there’s no drama or sense of fun, and even through twisty stuff the steering is light and uncommunicative.

There is a 4WD traction mode that’ll help if you ever need to escape a slippery field, but most of the time you’d be better off with the extra range of the Pro Performance. The GTX claims between 289 and 300 miles WLTP.

doesn’t expect you to geek out on the whole electric driving thing. So it doesn’t give you complicated energy consumption readouts, or a driver-only climate mode. Not even paddles to select different levels of regeneration, or adaptive radar-based variable regen either. Just D and B on the main drive thumb-lever-thingy. And even B for brake mode doesn’t pull you back very strongly.

That’s because the best way to hypermile any EV is to anticipate and lift early, rather than rely on regenerative braking. But when you use the brake pedal – which is nicely progressive – it does get you a bit more regen at the top of the travel. Not that much though, as this is RWD and dragging the back wheels on a slippery road too much would be like using only the back brake on your pushbike: liable to unsettle matters.

You certainly won’t unsettle an ID.4 in corners, deliberately or otherwise. Into slow ones it’ll understeer mildly but doggedly. Settle it and use the power to the rear and it’ll go through neutrally. The standard car actually feels more AWD than RWD (another mark against the GTX, strangely) – there’s loads of traction and precious little steering feel except in quicker bends. The traction control acts very subtly. So the enjoyment on a good road comes from the road not the car, but the car isn’t a killjoy.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : EV Motor, Power, and Performance

With the single rear-mounted motor, the ID.4 makes 201 horsepower, but the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive model pumps out 295. Towing capacity is a stout 2700 pounds. Regenerative braking helps recapture energy when slowing the vehicle, but the familiar one-pedal driving that EV drivers have come to appreciate is largely missing here, even in the ID.4’s most aggressive regenerative mode.

Also lacking is the traditional gut-punch acceleration that electric vehicles often provide. The rear-wheel-drive ID.4 isn’t slow by traditional compact-crossover standards, but its 7.6-second run to 60 mph in our testing demonstrates that it’s far more laid back than quicker EV competitors. Going for the more powerful all-wheel-drive model sharpens the ID.4’s accelerative performance, as evidenced by its 5.4-second jump to 60 mph at our test track. The ID.4 handles less sharply than some other EVs, but we appreciate its smooth and refined ride quality and quiet cabin.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : Battery Performance and Charge

The battery consists of a lithium-Ion battery pack which houses 9 battery modules in 10 compartments (Pure) or 12 modules (Pro) containing the individual battery cells (24 per module) in a rectangular aluminium casing which sits in the vehicle’s underbody. While the smaller battery holds an energy content of 55 kWh, of which 52 kWh are made available to the user, the larger pack comes in at 82/77 kWh.

The battery’s thermal management system is designed to maintain the battery’s temperature around the ideal range of 25 °C (77 °F) and utilises liquid cooling.

The battery can be charged at home on 110- or 240-volt connections, of course, but is also capable of DC fast-charging. The new base model is expected to sport a smaller battery and less range, but DC fast-charging is likely to remain a standard feature.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : Comfort Riding and Range

While all-wheel drive models will eventually be included in the ID.4 lineup, the single electric motor rear-wheel drive models will launch first.

In its initial form, ID.4 is only available with a single powertrain combination: a rear motor that has 201 horsepower and 229 lb-ft of instant torque, powered by an 82-kilowatt-hour electric battery. While an eight-second 0-60 time isn’t fast in this category, it is still good for a compact crossover.

The dual-motor vehicle will be available by late 2021 with a more powerful AWD version that has a second electric motor with approximately 302 horsepower. As a result, the segment’s 0-60 time will be improved by approximately 2 seconds.

The EPA-estimated range of the single-motor Volkswagen ID.4 vehicle is approximately 250 miles.

We just wish its driving demeanor was more playful. Rear-wheel-drive models come with one motor and 201 horsepower; opting for all-wheel drive adds a second motor and ups power output to 295. Maximum range is about 280 miles per charge, but the upcoming base model will pair its more attractive price tag with a smaller battery and less range. Good thing DC fast-charging is standard, which makes juicing up at public charging stations relatively quick and easy.

Volkswagen ID.4 Review 2022 : Cargo And Towing Capacity

With a short length and competitive occupant space, the ID.4 has surprising cargo space and towing capacity.

Under the liftgate is a large cargo space with an easy-to-use bilevel cargo floor. Standard folding backseats are divided 60/40, and higher trims come with a center armrest and pass-through.

The ID.4 does not have a front trunk, as appears in several EVs.

Ultimately, the ID.4 shines in terms of overall volume. The ID.4 has a maximum cargo volume of 64.2 cubic feet, while the Mustang Mach-E has 59.7 cubic feet with its backseat folded, according to manufacturer specifications.

This was with the cargo floors at the lowest positions, with additional, unoccupied underfloor storage spaces, as well as any sideways or sideways-facing storage spaces.

Our Opinion

If you’re worried about lifetime CO2 and pollution, note VW has invested big in sustainability. The UK cars come from a German factory powered entirely by renewables. Same for nearly all suppliers including the battery cell makers. There’s also offsetting for the ‘unavoidable emissions’ including logistics, leaving the ID.4 independently audited as net carbon neutral when delivered to you.
