Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Bike” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022”.

The Yamaha Tenere 700 retains the developments made for the Dakar Rally and it is ready to hit the toughest of trails without modifications. It is powered by a 72.4bhp, 68Nm 689cc liquid-cooled inline twin-cylinder engine. We have seen this CP2 engine internationally in the Yamaha MT-07 and the Yamaha R7.

A lot of attention has gone into the suspension setup as well, with the longer swing arm and its sharper angle helping the motorcycle stay flat and reduce squat under acceleration (which lifts the front wheel up and the motorcycle loses steering ability).

Yamaha was able to give the bike improved low- and mid-range performance thanks to the shorter final drive, to make technical riding effortless. This combination of dirt bike-like capabilities, an engine suitable for long hauls, and 240mm of ground clearance can be put to good use in our conditions.

Highlights of Yamaha Tenere 700

Yamaha’s T7 adventure-touring idea was unveiled in 2016, and it was so well received that the company chose to produce it as the Tenere 700. The motorcycle appears to have come right out of the Dakar Rally, with legal concessions made all around the world.

The quad-LED headlamp has a post-apocalyptic design element, and the minimalist design includes Yamaha racing blue for the little sections of bodywork that are there. It’s a good thing because the vehicle’s off-road concentration means less bodywork will be damaged if it’s dropped. The new double-cradle frame, which permits 204mm of ground clearance, is hidden beneath the bodywork.

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022

The 2021 Yamaha Tenere 700 is a new chapter for Yamaha’s adventure touring model range. The Japanese manufacturer positions this bike as a mid-point between an out-and-out adventure rally racer and a civil, calm street motorcycle. Powered by the same crossplane crankshaft, 689 cc parallel-twin from the 2020 MT-07, sending the dirt flying with 74 HP and 50 lbs-ft of torque, the Tenere 700 comes in at a relatively lightweight 450 lbs.

The Tenere 700 is designed from the ground up to be much more of a pure adventure-rally bike than it’s bigger brother, the Super Tenere ES, which is an adventure-tourer. This 2021 model strips away excesses and goes on a diet by shedding pretty much all it can and still be considered street legal. It has no multimode traction control, no panniers, no electronically adjustable suspension, and the only true concession to modern necessity on the bike, dual-zone ABS, has a disable switch that truly and completely turns off the ABS for off-road fun.

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 : Impressive Looks

The Yamaha Tenere 700 is a motorcycle produced by Yamaha Motor Corporation, offering power and comfort in one package. This adventure touring bike is locally available with only one ABS variant.

Standard features include the basics such as LED headlamps, LED tail lamp, and digital gauges. The Tenere 700 also gets a convenience features such as a USB charging port, and an adjustable windscreen.

The Tenere 700 is powered by a 689cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke, DOHC engine which produces a healthy 72 hp and 68 Nm of torque. This mill is then paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.

In terms of safety features, this bike comes standard with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), traction control, slipper clutch, immobilizer, steering damper, and a pass switch.

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 : Performance

Cruising around town on the Tenere 700, its fuel injection feels refined and smooth in the lower RPMs. There is plenty of good torque there and enough acceleration but it comes on with a mild surge that is a bit underwhelming compared to some of the bigger middleweight twins. This is a sub-700cc engine after all. Getting it to wheelie takes a fair amount of revs and clutch in first gear. Yet there is ample power there to merge into traffic, pass cars or do anything else you might ask it to do. Passing without a downshift usually isn’t a problem either.

On the highway, the Tenere’s motor is dead smooth with no significant vibration or tingling in the bars or pegs that might cause concern. Even dropping it down to 5th gear at 75, it was still smooth, 4th as well! To match that smoothness is a smallish windshield that blocks a lot more wind than you’d expect. It pushed the wind nearly over my head (at 6 foot 2 inch) and around my shoulders, for a nice clean pocket of air to ride in. And with the cushy Rally Seat, it’s a bike I wouldn’t dread riding for several hours on the highway enroute to the trails.

In the dirt, the Tenere’s ABS system feels unrefined compared to the more advanced off-road ABS offerings on the market. It’s really a street-tuned system that should be turned off as soon as you hit the dirt. The less than stellar braking performance on the street was not really an issue in the dirt though. The only time I did have problems with braking was with the rear wheel on steep declines. Going down hills at a hot pace, it was hard to be smooth on the rear brake. Without a lot of feel or a slipper clutch, the rear wheel would start to chatter and loose grip, forcing me to rely more on the front brake.

Rear tire grip is good under power even without Traction Control, until you get into the softer stuff. But that is really more about the tires. Riding with the stock Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tires, I found it easy to break traction in sand or loose dirt. Yet power slides were always easy to control and predictable. The front tire also had a tendency to surprise you with a no-warning tuck riding over patches of sand. However, I got a chance to test the Tenere 700 with a set of Shinko 216 MX knobbies and the feeling was significantly improved. The rear tire grabbed excellent traction and the bike floated through deep sand like it was on rails. The 21”/18” wheel combo and longish 62.8-inch wheelbase gives it excellent stability as well. The differences in sand was a reminder of how much tire choice can have a big impact on handling. But the Pirelli’s are still a step up compared to the smooth 80/20 (street/dirt) tires many manufacturers typically mount on new adventure bikes.

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 : Ride & Comfort

The 2022 Yamaha Ténéré 700 is a breath of fresh air in that regard after coming off other middleweight bikes with full electronic suites: No spending hours mastering the layers upon layers of rider modes, controls, and menus.

It forces you to learn wrist control and off-road skills to maintain traction and composure rather than learning to rely on a series of lean angle sensors, lightspeed traction control, and the luxury of multiple rider modes to become proficient off pavement. But don’t let that deter you, the torquey motor, nimble chassis, and thoughtful ergonomics all work together to inspire confidence off-road.

The fully adjustable suspension is nice and plush over everything but the biggest hits, and small adjustments to the clickers make a big difference. The KYB components front and rear are simple but effective, and work well with the off-road-oriented 21”/18” wheel sizes we all know and love once you get them dialed in.

Speaking of simple components, we can’t help but love the no-fuss LCD dash and rider interface: There’s basically only one feature to master on the Yamaha Ténéré 700 dash, and that’s switching to “Off-Road Mode” to completely disable both front and rear ABS. Just press and hold the clearly-labeled “Off-Road ABS” button on the dash until the indicator light comes on, and boom, you’ve mastered it. No touch screen. No cascading menus. Zero custom settings.

Yamaha Tenere 700 Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

Yamaha draws from its MT-07 program and powers the 700 with its CP2 “Crossplane Crankshaft Concept” engine that features twin 80 mm bores with a 68.6 mm stroke for a 689 cc total displacement. The 11.5-to-1 compression ratio is a necessary evil to develop the full 72 horsepower and 50 pounds o’ grunt, and it’ll have you at the premium fuel hook, but it is what it is folks.

Dual over-head cams time the 8-valve head, and a water jacket and radiator carry off waste heat and go a long way toward mitigating the heat wash when you come to a stop or are in dead-slow traffic. A standard clutch couples engine power to the six-speed transmission, and it sends power to the rear wheel via a tough chain drive.

It’s not necessarily a technological marvel as far as higher electronics are concerned. There’s no traction control or power modes with this ride, just raw control and honest feedback, so the lump is every bit as pragmatic as the rest of the machine. The overall drivetrain is kept fairly short overall by a “stacked” transmission that carries its shafts in more of an over-under arrangement than a tandem one, and that helps with load balance between the two axles.

Our Opinion

Yamaha competes with popular brands like Ducati, Hyosung and Suzuki on the international level. To sustain its leadership in the market, the company would have to work innovatively on the upcoming Yamaha superbikes and offer something new to the audiences.
