Benelli 302R Review 2024 – My Attitude My Bike : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Bike” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Benelli 302R Review 2024”.

Benelli 302R is an offering from the Italian bike maker, Benelli and it belongs to the fully-faired entry level sports-bike segment. First showcased at the 2015 EICMA motorcycle festival, and then in the 2016 Indian Auto Expo as Tornado 302R, this sports bike is later dubbed as Benelli 302R. The design and making of this small capacity sports bike were targetted to meet the specific needs and requirements of the Asia-Pacific market.

Italian automaker Benelli is expected to launch the 2022 version of its 302R motorcycle later this year.In the latest development, the design of the upcoming bike has been previewed in a new image.

As per the picture, it will have vertically stacked headlights, aerodynamic fairings, and an updated paint job as well as graphics.

Highlights of Benelli 302R

The highlight of this model is the new design. Replacing the halogen units from the older model is the vertically-stacked projector headlamp, flanked by LED DRLs on either side and new LED tail light. The bodywork gets air vents to help channel the air around better. Benelli has, however, retained the same 14-litre fuel tank and side panels.

The 300cc, liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine is the same as the previous model, but now makes 35.35PS at 11,000rpm and 27Nm at 9,000rpm. This is 3.5PS less and 0.5Nm more than the current model. That said, the brand has compensated for the loss of power by shedding a whole 18kg off the motorcycle.

Suspension duties are handled by 41mm USD fork, however, now comes with preload adjustability. The rear monoshock is unchanged. The braking department too sees a slight update. Instead of the twin petal discs at up front, the bike now comes equipped with traditional rotors.

Benelli 302R Review 2022

The Benelli 302R is the brand’s only entry-level fully-faired motorcycle in the country. The company used to sell the BS4 variant but the BS6 model is yet to reach the Indian shores. The KTM RC 390 rival is currently on sale in other markets.

The latest iteration of the motorcycle, which is currently available in select markets globally, features an aggressive design. The styling cues include an MV Agusta F4-like LED headlamp along with sleek LED DRLs and spoilers for better channeling of air. Everything else looks similar to the discontinued version, and the motorcycle retains a sharp fairing, a muscular fuel tank, split-style seats, and a side-slung exhaust. While the styling is similar to the old model, the new 302R gets revised graphics.

The motorcycle also gets a colour TFT dash instead of the semi-digital unit on its predecessor, along with backlit switches and full-LED lighting. The mechanical specifications feature a 302cc, parallel-twin engine that is Euro5-compliant. Linked to a six-speed gearbox, the updated motor makes 34bhp and 27Nm. The maximum power output has dropped by approximately 3bhp. However, the 2021 model is nearly 22kg lighter than its predecessor.

The hardware on the international spec model includes upside-down telescopic front forks and a rear mono-shock to handle the suspension tasks. The anchoring department comprises twin rotors at the front and a single disc at the back.

The 302R is likely to make a comeback in the next few months. There’s a decent market for a motorcycle this size and right now KTM is enjoying most of it.

Benelli 302R Review 2022 : Impressive Looks

Like most Italian designs the DSK Benelli 302R is quite appealing, right from the intricate headlight design, exhaust, and the shapely fuel tank. If you remember, we had exclusively ridden the pre-production version of the bike last year. The bike now gets a few minute but welcome changes such as an all-black frame, instead of the earlier red, and the exhaust has some more detailing on it. More importantly, the bike we rode last year had far too many monikers on it, which have all been removed. It’s just the ‘302R’ now.

There are three colour options to choose from including – White Rosso, Red Nero and Silver Verde. The mudguard-mounted front number-plate and saree-guard try to spoil the party, yet it manages to have a sporty racebike-like appeal.

Benelli 302R Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

Mechanically, the bike appears to be largely unchanged. It’s got the same steel tube frame as the old 302R, and the engine is still a 300cc parallel twin. Power is actually down a fraction, from 38 hp to 35 hp, probably due to emissions-related internal changes, but fortunately the new bodywork is also lighter than before—giving a fully fueled curb weight of 182 kilograms (401 pounds) compared to the old version’s 190 kilograms (419 pounds).

The 1,410mm (55.5 inches) wheelbase is unchanged and the suspension looks to be the same as before, but Bosch 9.1 ABS has been added to the braking system to bring the bike into line with European regulations that make antilock brakes mandatory on new bikes over 125cc. As with the rest of Benelli’s new models for 2021 and 2022, we’re still waiting on official information and details about which bikes will be sold in the USA, but the new type approval means there’s no doubt that this machine is heading for production soon.

The 302R gets an analogue rev counter with a digital cluster to give out information such as the speedometer, gear indicator, fuel-gauge, trip meter, and even a clock. There are twin discs up front and a single disc on the rear, along with an adjustable brake lever. Thankfully, now the bike is equipped with ABS which has become a must nowadays, and this one can be switched off if desired.

Benelli 302R Review 2022 : Performance

We already know that 302R sports machine is fitted with the same 300cc inline, 2 cylinder, water cooled engine which is seen on the naked sibling – TNT 300. The motor on the 302R is capable of churning out max power of 38.26 bhp @ 11500 rpm with peak torque of 26.5Nm @ 10000 rpm, like-wise TNT 300, making ear throbbing exhaust note. The motor equipped on the motorcycle is no doubt peppier one however, the facts and figures on the paper somehow doesn t match up with the expectations on the road.

The bike doesn t feel as fast as a sports bike should which could be because of its kerb weight (198 kgs) making it the heaviest bike in the segment. Rather than revving the bike to its limit, it is best enjoyed while touring at 100 – 140 kmph. The bike clocks at 60 kmph in less than 4.5 seconds (approximately) and managed to hit 100 kmph from standstill in 9.5 seconds (approximately).

The best part of the engine is its ability to produce speed at as low as 30 kmph even in the top gear witnessing no knocking sound which forces the rider to shift down the gears. The vibrations on the motorcycle were experienced on the foot pegs and handlebars around 6000 rpm. Coming to the gearbox, the gear shifts were smooth throughout as the gearbox performed its duties well with no problem of false neutral. The heat management on the bike is a bit concerning factor as it swiftly heats up which one can feel instantly while riding.

Benelli 302R Review 2022 : Riding & Comfort

The 302R is a bit of a mixed bag here too as ride and handling are good, but brakes lack bite. The chassis is different from the TNT300’s and unlike the naked, the rear monoshock isn’t offset. The front uses 41mm upside down forks which go well with the beefed up front-end in terms of looks. Front-end feel is good though I would have liked more feedback. The 302R comes shod with sticky Metzeler M5s – the same as the KTM 390 Duke – at both ends which work well in in making it an able handler.

The bike isn’t very quick to change direction given its weight and long 1,410mm wheelbase but feels stable and planted. On the racetrack, the 302R will feel good but its lap times won’t be among the quickest. Ride quality is excellent as the Benelli made it through nearly every pothole it went through without a hitch. The suspension soaks up bumps and undulations well without unsettling itself or the rider. This, along with the relaxed seating – the clip-ons are not too low and the footpegs not too rear set – should make it good for commuting too.

The pegs could have been higher though, as I was able to ground them rather easily around corners thanks to the Metzelers’ confidence. I rode the bike from Mumbai to Pune without a single halt and at the end of it, neither were my wrists strained nor did my back hurt which speaks a lot about the comfort. Wind protection is good and the seat plush, which adds to its touring credentials.

The 302R uses twin ABS-equipped 260mm front discs upfront. The setup is impressive on paper. It offers a progressive feel but lacks outright bite. Our brake test confirmed the same as the bike took a whopping 49.19 metres and 3.94 seconds to come to a halt from 100kmph. Braking from 80kmph was relatively better with the bike clocking 30.54 metres and 3.20 seconds.

Our Opinion

While we did find the Benelli 302R a competent sports bike, with nice performance and handling, it was let down by the spongy front brake. If you’re a young man on a budget, and wanting something with a bit more go than the typical 250, the 302R certainly wouldn’t be at the top of your shopping list, but it might be worth considering.
