2023 Honda Forza 350 Review : Powertrain & Range

Honda recently took the wraps off the 2021 Forza 350 alongside the Forza 750 and the Forza 125. The maxi-scooter is essentially the Honda Forza 300 but gets significant updates for the new model year. For starters, the Honda Forza 350 gets a slight displacement bump of 50 cc, from 279 cc on the Forza 300 to 330 cc. The new maxi-scooter also gets a 16 per cent bump in power and torque by 4 bhp and 4.3 Nm, respectively. The scooter now makes 29 bhp at 7,500 rpm along with peak torque output of 31.5 Nm at 5,250 rpm. The engine is still paired to a V-matic transmission. Honda says that the Forza 350 can reach a maximum speed of 137 kmph.

The engine too has been updated significantly. It gets a new crankshaft which is 10 per cent lighter, new throttle bodies, airbox and a new exhaust as well. The engine cover on the new Forza 350 has been re-designed as well. The scooter is Euro V compliant and the claimed efficiency is 30 kmpl (As per the WTMC cycle). With a fuel tank capacity of 11.5 litres, the range is just a little more than 330 km.

The Forza 350 gets slightly re-worked styling as well but keeps the essence of the 300 intact. Honda says that the new styling is ‘aggressive, technical and powerful’. The rear side panels are new and the front air duct is now a little larger, which reduces the wind blast on the rider. The Forza 350 gets a long list of features which include all-LED lighting, storage space for two full-face helmets under the seat, a USB charger, space for a water bottle and a lockable pocket on the inner side of the front apron. Honda is also offering its Smartphone Voice Control System (SVCS) as an option, which can used to control phone calls and music.

The max-scooter also gets Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) which detects difference between the front and rear wheel speeds, calculates the slip ratio and then controls engine torque via the fuel injection to regain rear wheel traction. HSTC can be switched on-off via a switch on the left handlebar. A ‘T’ indicator in the digital display flickers when the system is working to manage tyre grip.

2023 Honda Forza 350 Review : Performance

No one buys a scooter because of how much power it makes. What’s important to urban and not-only urban commuters is an engine that’s quick off the mark to get you ahead at traffic lights. It’s good if it also has some midrange power for overtaking trucks and buses and the ability to do 60-70mph without wringing its neck on dual carriageways is handy so you can keep a safe distance between you and the traffic behind.

Most 125cc scooters do the first one well enough with just 10-12bhp and lots of revs. The second challenge needs some midrange torque and that usually comes from a bigger engine, while the third one – maintaining a reasonable top speed – needs torque and revs, which in turn gives power.

The Forza 350 has 29bhp and 32 lb-ft of torque, which is four bhp more than both the old Forza 300 and Yamaha’s XMax 300 and a few lb-ft of additional torque too. It accelerates quick enough off the line to see off almost any four wheeler and in an unofficial test on what might have been a private road (in as much as many small portions of it were paid for by the taxes of private individuals) it might have taken just 610 metres to go from zero to an indicated top speed of 100mph (which is where the speedo runs out) if you were the sort of shallow individual for whom that sort of thing might have been important.

What is important is the extra flexibility that top speed gives you while riding on a motorway. There’s plenty of acceleration between 70-85mph to run with the other traffic and, if you need to nip out from lane two to lane three in a hurry, it just takes a twist of the wrist.

It’s not as fast as a powerful motorbike – think of it like a powerful family car… with a ‘Sport badge on the boot. Except this one is also small enough to fit through all the gaps when the traffic comes to a halt in rush hour.

Our Opinion

The new Forza 350 scooter has more power and torque for faster acceleration and greater top speed, so you can do even more with it. The liquid-cooled engine is equipped with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), for consistent rear-wheel grip. Sleek bodywork features a refined style – and improved aerodynamics – for extra high-speed comfort, with a further 40mm movement for the electric screen. A redesigned digital/analogue instrument panel now features the Honda Smartphone Voice Control system, linking you via Bluetooth to many of your device’s functions. And full LED lighting emits a premium light signature.
