Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike : Hello friends, if you are thinking of buying a “Bike” and you have no detailed idea about car, I welcome you to this blog. Today I will let you know – “Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022”.

Yamaha announced the new 2022 YZF R1M to boost its supersport lineup with improvements throughout the build. A refined engine pushes optimized fairings and cowlings across the board, and the R1M has panels made of carbon fiber in a bid to keep weight down.

The upgraded electronic ride-quality and safety suite has new top-shelf goodies to make this latest generation R1 family a marvel of engineering. While it isn’t a racetrack-only bike, it definitely falls in the stupidfast category, and of course, track days are still a viable option with very little tweaking to set it up for the circuit.

Highlights of Yamaha YZF R1M

The R1M is still Yamaha’s top supersport motorbike, and unless you get one of Valentino Rossi’s old MotoGP bikes, this is the most performance you can get with the tuning forks emblem. Yamaha kept the drivetrain the same for 2018 but enhanced the electronics package. Most of us would be content with 197bhp and 112Nm from a crossplane four-cylinder motor. As a result, in addition to the 6-axis IMU that regulates traction control, ABS, slide control, lift control, and launch control, the R1M comes with Ohlins semi-active suspension, which adjusts compression and rebound on the fly based on sensor feedback. The Ohlins Smart EC 2ERS is its name. It gets a new quick-shifter that eliminates the need for a clutch.

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 – My Attitude My Bike

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022

A next-generation engine on the YZF R1M provides the power with a claimed 83.2 pound-feet of torque at 11,500 rpm and an estimated 200 horsepower at the redline. Yeah, it looks like it’s right at home at the top of the range, and although the numbers aren’t in yet, the outgoing models claimed a top speed of 182 mph (293 Km/H). I expect the new models to be at least that fast; maybe even a skosh faster.

Dual over-head cams time the 16-valve head with finger-follower-type rocker arms that keep top-end mass down. Each of the four cylinders mike out at 79 mm with a 50.9 mm stroke for a 998 cc total displacement and a smokin’-hot 13-to-1 compression ratio. That is near the top of the range for a non-dedicated race bike, but that’s the trade off for all those ponies. Besides, it’s not like you’ll ever do it justice on public roads, and I’ll thank you not to try. Save it for your track/strip/salt-flat of choice.

R1M variants roll with titanium connecting rods and intake valves that are both tough and light, and no doubt about it, this reduction in reciprocating mass is a major contributor to its high-revving nature. It’s a crossplane-crankshaft engine tuned to have self-canceling properties that limit the vibration generated by the engine, and that contributes to high revs, as well.

A slip-and-assist clutch couples engine power to the six-speed transmission for another layer of control and traction protection for the rear contact patch. It’s backed up by the new Engine Brake Management that delivers a trio of engine-brake profiles so you dial in for conditions and preference.

Fuel delivery is ride-by-wire with Yamaha’s Chip-Controlled Throttle and an all-new Accelerator Position Sensor on board to make power delivery smooth and reliable. All of the above features fall under the control of the on-board Yamaha Ride Control and/or Yamaha’s Y-TRAC smartphone app.

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 : Impressive Looks

It’s no secret Yamaha went in a racy direction with its current YZF-R1M. The seat is tall, the clip-on-style bars low, and the rider’s rearsets are tucked up high. But with the addition of the R1M’s Öhlins semi-active suspension it becomes a surprisingly versatile literbike. With a few swipes of a button, the R1 goes from mild (pleasingly cushy for a sportbike) to wild (firm damping with loads of feel).

For that extra cash you also get full carbon fiber bodywork (including tailsection) and Yamaha’s GPS-powered telemetry system that sits atop the passenger tail cowl. Yamaha also includes a traditional passenger seat. Because the telemetry system is 6 years old, the user interface is a tad clunky when used on an iOS-enabled smartphone (the Y-TRAC and YRC Setting apps are Android compatible too). Another gripe is you have to physically remove the rear cowl (with a T30 Torx head) to access the unit’s Wi-Fi password.

But hold the throttle wide open for a few moments and these gripes fade away and are replaced with a euphoric burst of adrenaline. The R1′s 998cc CP4 inline-four is a thing of mechanical beauty. It delivers huge power, to the tune of 165 hp at the business end of the 200-series Bridgestone Battlax RS11 rubber.

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 : Powertrain & Range

The new Yamaha YZF-R1M bikes are powered by a BS 6-compliant 998 cc liquid-cooled in-line four cylinder engine that generates a peak power of 200 bhp and 113 Nm of maximum torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with A&S (assist and slipper) clutch.

The next-generation engine on the YZF-R1 and R1M provides the power with a claimed 83.2 pound-feet of torque at 11,500 rpm and an estimated 200 horsepower at the redline. Yeah, it looks like it’s right at home at the top of the range, and although the numbers aren’t in yet, the outgoing models claimed a top speed of 182 mph (293 Km/H). I expect the new models to be at least that fast; maybe even a skosh faster.

Yamaha said that the engine has been honed to deliver smoother performance, especially over a race track. To that end, the engine has been equipped with an advanced combustion system featuring new cylinder heads and injectors as well as an advanced finger rocker arm valve system so as to improve power delivery at high rpm ranges.

The YZF R1M is also equipped with YCCT (Yamaha Chip Controlled Throttle) system in combination with a special ride-by-wire system called APSG (accelerator position sensor grip). The YCC-T with APSG allows for improved throttle response on the bikes.

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 : Performance

Here is where the R1M comes into its own. The same engine, electronics and fairing upgrades as the R1 but with a wider rear section rear tyre (200), carbon bodywork, polished tank and swingarm plus wireless communications via an app to assess your track performance, the race version is also equipped some of the highest specification Ohlins suspension ever seen on a production motorcycle – the same forks as on Ducati’s Panigale V4R but this time the NPX pressurised forks are electronically-controlled.

And, for the press launch, a set of sticky slick Bridgestone V02 tyres, the racier partner of this 2020 duo showed even more agility.

To demonstrate how good the R1M is, Pata Yamaha World Superbike rider, Alex Lowes, took her for a spin and managed a lap time of 1m43.9, compared to his race pace on his World Superbike of 1m41.5. Just 2.4s difference on a bike that costs 6-times less, and that you or I could buy.

Stability and grip thanks to the Ohlins/Bridgestone partnership were noticeably brilliant, it was like riding a completely different bike. Silky initial turn-in with the movement across the tyre as the lean angle increased as smooth as you’d want it. The bike sits poised and I’m confident in both the turn angle and balance as I look to pile on the power.

At the end of the two fast straights into heavy braking zones, the bike is steady as the electronics all come together to work harmoniously with the rubber bits, springy bits and stoppy bits. Any kind of unexpected movement would be unnerving yet the R1M behaves so well given the conditions.

Yamaha YZF R1M Review 2022 : Riding & Comfort

A combination of its plush Öhlins, racing slicks, the motor’s strangely vibe-free character and a recently surfaced Jerez, gives the surreal impression you’re riding on velvet to second you leave pitlane and it keeps on getting better the faster you go.

Then Yamaha’s strange braking character gives the front end a slightly wooden feel, but ignore that and, as before, the R1M’s cornering poise, stability and agility is up there with the best. Few superbikes are as easy to ride quickly and constantly flatter the rider. Just point where you want to go and it obediently follows.

Despite a new electronic engine braking control system (three levels) and a revised lightweight ABS pump with two-stage braking control, the R1M’s (and R1’s) brake-by-wire system still lacks feel, power and consistency. Squeeze the lever as hard as you can, even crushing it with four fingers and the Yamaha only gives you the braking power it thinks it needs, which can leave you sailing past a corner.

You can feel the ABS pulsing through your right hand into hairpins and after a full track session the lever starts coming back to the bar. These braking traits are shared by all the Japanese superbikes, but not the Aprilia, BMW or Ducati and is the R1M’s only glitch in a sea of brilliance.

Lose the ABS, fit a race exhaust and keep it fed with hot and cold running racing tyres and the R1M will be one of the most formidable, but friendly trackday tools around.

Our Opinion

The exclusive machine is featuring a range of highly sophisticated equipment that will provide ultimate fun and the highest level of race performance. The motorcycle gets full carbon fiber bodywork and dynamic graphics that add more flavor in its beauty. The price of this machine will never disappoint the buyers.
